An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a teen was stabbed during an alleged attempted murder bid in Johnstone.

Police were called to the scene in the Thorn Court area of the town on Wednesday after a 16-year-old boy was approached by two males at a bus stop.

An altercation led to the teenager being assaulted and stabbed before being rushed to hospital.

His condition is described as stable.

An 18-year-old man will appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Friday.

The hunt for the other male is ongoing, police said.

He is described as slim, in his mid to late teens, with short brown hair.

At the time he was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit top and bottoms with the hood up or a baseball cap on.

Detective inspector Nicky Beattie said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in and around the area at the time of the incident and thinks they may have information which could assist our enquiries to get in touch.

“If you have any recording equipment, such as, doorbell or dash cams, please check the footage and bring anything of significance to our attention.”

Officers said they will remain in the area to provide reassurance to residents.

Those with information are asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1542 of September 13.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
